The 2017 Categories

Presented by Interior magazine, the Interior Awards recognise excellence in commercial interior design


Finalists and winners, and their projects, along with the teams that have delivered these projects, will receive considerable media recognition via AGM Publishing's highly regarded portfolio of magazines and digital platforms. Finalists and winning projects will be permanent additions to the ArchitectureNow awards gallery.

awards CATEGORIES

Retail: This category recognises a shop, retail outlet, showroom, department store, food market, hairdresser, doctor and dentist' room.

Hospitality: This category recognises a cafe, bar, restaurant, motel, hotel, boutique lodge, day spa, casino, club, cinema, fitness centre.

Workplace (up to 1,000m2): This category recognises an office, studio, warehouse, factory.

Workplace (over 1,000m2): This category recognises an office, studio, warehouse, factory.

Civic: This category recognises a gallery, museum, concert hall, theatre, exhibition venue, place of worship, educational institution, hospital, library, community centre, consulate, law court, parliamentary building, airport, railway station, port and ferry terminal.

Installation: This category recognises a temporary installation and structure, set design, gallery and museum exhibition.

Emerging Design Professional: This category recognises professionals  35 years of age or under, either employed in a design or architecture practice; or self-employed.

Craftsmanship: This category recognises a bespoke object or solution that has been created specifically for a project; and has not been used in any other project.

Student: This category recognises a design concept (built or un-built) across all areas of interior design (excluding residential). To be eligible, entrants must be aged 28* or under and be currently studying full time in 3rd, 4th or 5th year or recently graduated (end of 2016) in the fields of interior design, spatial design or architecture. Entries are accepted from individuals and teams.
* Students over the age of 28 may enter provided they have not practised as a design professional for an extended period of time.

CRITERIA

- Any New Zealand-based design professional may enter, including interior designers, interior decorators, interior architects, architects and all other design professionals
- Entries are encouraged from individuals, groups, partnerships and those working in larger practices
- Projects entered need to have been completed and delivered to client between September 2015 and March 2017
- Projects outside of New Zealand can be entered, although the principal design practice must be a New Zealand-based firm
- The following categories are eligible for the Supreme Award: Retail, Workplace, Civic and Hospitality.
- Projects entered can be in collaboration with overseas design partners but must be entered by the New Zealand-based practice
- Projects must be credited to the design company that delivered the project to the client at the time of project completion
- Projects must have been delivered to client
- Projects may be entered in more than one category, where appropriate (separate submission and entry fee apply)
- Specific criteria for the Student category: To be eligible, entrants must be aged 28 or under and be currently studying full time in 3rd, 4th or 5th year or recently graduated (end of 2016) in the fields of interior design, spatial design or architecture. Entries are accepted from individuals and teams.
